In ancient Rome, the ruling class employed the tactic of ‘bread and circuses’ to maintain control of the masses. They would hand out food rations and keep the public entertained with gladiatorial combat, wine and legal prostitution. They would use pleasure as a way to keep a docile public. To stop them from becoming aware of the true rot occurring within the ruling class.
In our modern day, we are inundated with ‘bread and circuses’. Streaming services, games, porn, reality TV, the news, sports games, drugs and alcohol, all at the ready to distract you from the realities of the life you are living, and the state of the world around you.
The world your children will inherit.
See these activities for what they are, distractions. Sometimes we need to be distracted, to escape. However, you must never try and fool yourself into thinking they are anything but that.
